After a month of excavation, a specialized Canadian archaeologist team lead by Steve Bourget of the Texas University made a important finding: Its about a tomb which contains the human rests of an individual which dates back 1700 years, due to the gold pieces, ornaments and type of ornaments one could determine that the category and importance would be of the same level of "The Lord of Sipan" and would have lived around about the same time.
The finding took place in the archaeological area of Ucupe, about 39 Kms from Chiclayo city in the district of Lagunas (Lambayeque).
Bourget is a specialist in the Moche culture and he is also well known in the archaeological media due to his excavations at the "Huaca de la Luna". In this very same team of archaeologist you will also find the participation of Peruvian archaeologists such as Bruno Alva Meneses, son of the famous Peruvian Archaeologist Walter Alva who discovered the Royal Tombs of The Lord of Sipan.

CHICLAYO. During these last two weeks, the patience of the Canadian investigator Steve Bourget was beginning to run out. With the support of his specialized team amongst them various Peruvian archaeologists, the multiple scientific excavations in the archaeological complex of Ucupe were not having positive results. As he put it, the third try would be the last intent in trying to unveil what they had came out to find. A immense indescribable emotion broke out amongst them the young Peruvian archaeologist Bruno Alva Meneses who let his imagination fly to the point in which similar moments to those experienced by his father 20 years ago discovered and unveiled to the world the Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan in the village of Huaca Rajada.
In front of his eyes and those of his colleagues, in the northeast sector of the Huaca Pepe Quiñones – baptized with this name due to a villager who lived right beside the 25m pyramid his entire live. A new elite Mochican individual was beginning to see the light after being buried 1700 years!.
To Bourget and the young Alva Meneses this was a familiar sensation just as it happened with the Lord of Sipan. A wooden coffin and its respective copper ties started to unveil the mystery: It was about a regent who belonged to the elite who would have lived approximately in the same time of the Lord of Sipan though in different domains i.e. in a different valleys.
During the excavation, some in edit objects were being found along the way, such as: crowns, staffs, enormous ear and nose piercing, as well as bracelets amongst many more. All these findings place this individual in a very high rank and importance.
It was then when Steve Bourget, as project director, immediately requested permanent protection and police surveillance of the site due to its importance, and to avoid tomb robbers which are frequently present in these areas.
Conscious of the importance of two valuable objects found at the site, the Canadian archaeologist requested them to be handed over to the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipan of Lambayeque, where they will be submitted to a restoration process.
It is known that the mask which covered the face of the individual as well as other valuable objects such as ceramics were removed these last days in order to protect them from deterioration.
In the deeper part of the tomb some ceramics were found which were used as sacrifice rituals as well as other materials such as metals and human bones. Also around the tomb, some Lama bones were found which were sacrificed during the burial ritual.
At this moment, Bourget is letting everything been drawn in details, of the findings whilst workers continue digging a couple of metres away from the tomb, due to the fact that there are compelling evidence of a second Tomb probably of a warrior or high priest who reigned along this very important regent.
The responsible for this project prefer to maintain these findings in reserve, which later on in a couple of days will reveal more details to the press. Meanwhile they still can not believe, having found a tomb totally intact, even though the area of Rafan, cayalti, Zaña and Ucupe have undergone constant looting thus destroying many important sites and tombs.
The news of the discovery has not been yet widely spread amongst important scientists of the region. Though some details of these findings can insinuate probably as the most important discovery of the decade.
