A recent discovery in the archaeological park of Sacsayhuaman revealed that after some battle’s the Incas decapitated their rivals and afterwards were used as ceremonial offerings.
“ The skulls we have found would have belonged to the Huarichacas. An ethnic who tried invading the Incas sacred places in the south bound of the their territories”, confirmed in his declaration by the archaeologist Mr. Washington Camacho, who is also director of the archaeological park.
According to his hypothesis, Pachacutec ordered that the invaders should be decapitated after they had killed some Inca military guards.
Three Skulls were found in a big ceramic vase, which was buried for various centuries in the hill of Qowiqarana, which lies north of the park. The remainders or rest of the bodies were not found.
In the last two months important discoveries were made in the same sector in which the skulls were found, such as 9 tombs, two of which belonged to children in fetal position which were also sacrificed during ceremonies. Other objects found were beautiful ceramic vases, which are being restored.
One of the most interesting findings was an intact vase in a form of a fish in polychromatic colors. Within the park there are many more sectors which has to be explored, where it is assumed that there many more treasures to be found. The INC (Instituto Nacional de Cultura) declared that, the park has not been explored in more than 40 years, and it is unfortunate that 95% of the park has already been populated making it very hard to explore further possible sites. |
