Hidden beneath the dense foliage of the high jungle, the citadel of Machu Picchu was once forgotten by its creators, for centuries escaping conquistadors and treasure hunters. When Hiram Bingham discovered and published “The Lost City of the Incas” in 1911, the world sat up and took note of this important architectural jewel. A real, ancient trail connected Cusco, the capital of the empire, with Machu Picchu. On this single path, we will follow in the footsteps of the Incan culture, visiting some of their ceremonial centers that continue to be clouded by history and mystery.
Our guides, descendants of the Incas, will help us pack for this fascinating adventure. Crowning this trek will be two passages in the mountains over 4,000 meters high. Our hike on the cobbled trails through a variety of flora and fauna begins in the Andes, and we will descend to Intipunko or the “Puerta del Sol” in the “Ceja de Selva,” where we will first observe the impressive citadel of Machu Picchu.
