"Caral"

The oldest civilization of the new world

|
Five million years ago, human beings began to populate the planet, and only six million years later, they began to build urban centers and integrate networks of long-distance communication. Six societies in the world could spread their ideas and lifestyles, thus generating the necessary conditions for the formation of civilizations, the state and the cities. These societies, Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, Peru, China and Mesoamerica, are important to know because they influenced the unfurling of other contemporary populations and had a fundamental role in the development of succeeding societies.
The city of Caral was built by one of the most important civilizations on the planet, created through the organized work of its people in a territory with various geographical configurations.
Many know Cusco as the capital of the Incan Empire and Machu Picchu as the stronghold of one of the last Incas. But few also know that the Sacred City of Caral was constructed by the first political state that formed in Peru 4,400 years before the reign of the Incas.
Caral-Supe represents the oldest civilization of America, developed nearly simultaneously with those of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China. By at least 1500 years, the inhabitants of Peru were further advanced than those of Mesoamerica, another of the six major civilizations; more than 3000 years later, this Peruvian state became the society that constructed the famous Mayan cities.
The precocious Caral-Supe society became the oldest civilization of the New World, but, different from the other centers of civilization like Mesopotamia, Egypt and India, which interchanged knowledge and experiences, Caral-Supe reached unprecedented heights while completely isolated from its contemporaries of America and the Old World.
The archaeological site of Caral can be found in the around Lima in the province of Barranca, district of Supe, in the middle of the valley of the Supe River, in the north central coast of Peru. It is located 3 hours away by car (4X4) from Lima and then 30 minutes on a path; we recommend spending an entire day to visit these marvelous ruins.
